From time-to-time I like to do pro-bono work for artists who need some design but can't really afford it. I met Thomas through The Studio New York and he asked me if I could help him with a visual identity for his website. He is such an interesting and talented actor, I couldn't resist.
Thomas originally hails from Sweden and he definitely has a certain European feel to his characters and his general persona. He reminded me of what I imagined a Bauhaus acting student would have been like so I looked to that as my inspiration.
The next pass came pretty quickly as I felt like I had a sense of how it was going to take shape. I wanted to incorporate one central image of him onto several different types of backgrounds that could be used for different ideas, pages, etc. He liked it but it felt a little too static for him as he wanted to portray several different sides of his acting range.
I then thought that we could use the pages of his website to show him in various characters and assemble it like it was some kind of mid-century art magazine with faded paper, half-tone images overlaid atop one another to play with the collage style from that era.
